At an AES conference in 1973, Dr.
Matti Otala presented a paper describing a
distortion that he termed Transient Intermodulation
(TIM). Attending this conference was Svein Erik
Børja, a Norwegian record and broadcasting producer
and a great audio enthusiast. The seminar provided
Svein Erik with an explanation of the audible
imperfections he had experienced from audio
amplifiers. He brought the AES papers to
Electrocompaniet, and asked if we could make an
amplifier based on Dr. Otala’s and Dr. Jan
Lohstroh’s theory. A few prototype amplifiers were
made and the sound, compared to other transistor
amplifiers, was encouraging.
The next 3 years went to further research and design improvement. During this time they had to develop a new “language” to translate what they were hearing, into practical design parameters distortion, frequency response etc.) A new mathematical equation was developed to better describe the AC (music) characteristics of the transistor, rather than the normal DC characteristics. The result of this work culminated in the launch of Electrocompaniet's first 2 x 25W unit, “The 2 Channel Audio Power Amplifier”. The final approval came in 1976 when the American “bible”, The Audio Critic magazine, tested the amplifier and wrote:
“Audio freaks – eat your hearts out. This is the world’s best sounding amplifier.”
Since these early days, Electrocompaniet's designs have been continually improved and their product range has steadily grown.Today they are represented in more than 50 countries worldwide and their products are considered to be among the very best in the audio industry. Hoewever, the vision that drove the company in the early days has stayed: If music REALLY matters…
EMP2 - Universal Player
The
Electrocompaniet EMP 2 is a fully fledged and
versatile player with support for all modern audio
and video formats and media, including Blu-ray (2D
and 3D), CD, SACD, DVD and DVD Audio.
A Qdeo video processor from Marvell was chosen for optimal Blu-ray playback, giving a natural picture without noise and artifacts. DVD content is automatically upscaled to HD resolution. SACD playback is possible in both stereo and multichannel modes. The DSD data-stream is sent directly from the disk to the DAC’s for direct transmission to analogue audio. Filters on the output removes high frequency noise while amplitude and phase characteristics of the signal are maintained. A separate balanced stereo output offers the highest quality two-channel playback to suitably equipped stereo systems.
Supported formats
Audio playback: Dolby True HD, DTS-HD Master
Video playback: True24p Video, Blu-ray 2D/3D, Full HD 1080p, BD-Live (Profile 2.0), BonusVIEW, HDMI 1.4a
Media support : CD, DVD, SACD, DVD-Audio, Blu-ray (2D and 3D), AVCHD, HDCD, Kodak Picture CD, CD-R/RW, DVD±R/RW, DVD±R DL, BD-R/RE, BD-R/RE DL
Streaming: DLNA Certified, Ethernet/WiFi
Connections: Dual HDMI 1.4a, eSATA, USB2.0, RS232 , Ethernet wired and wireless, 7.1ch audio, 2.0ch balanced, Composite & Component video
EC 4.8 - Reference
Preamplifier
For more than 30 years, the name
'Electrocompaniet' has been synonymous with the
manufacture of great sounding power amplifiers. The
numerous prestigious international awards, as well
as top ranking reviews, attest to the success and
appreciation of these amplifiers. Since 1999, they
have had the same level of world-wide recognition
with their reference CD player, the Electrocompaniet
EMC 1. The obvious missing link has been a
preamplifier matching the quality of these
award-winning power amplifiers and reference CD
player.
With the new Electrocompaniet two-channel EC 4.8
preamplifier, the missing link is now removed. With
its outstanding performance, excellent resolution,
superb control and precise musical rendering, we
have succeeded making a preamplifier that is true to
their slogan, “Closing the gap to the master”.
The EC4.8 preamplifier is designed to fill the need
for an advanced preamplifier in a premium price
range. The preamplifier is designed as a slimline
form factor, with fully balanced signal path from
input to output. It is designed as two separate mono
preamplifiers, each with it’s own power supply. This
preamplifier can be used with the included IR remote
controller or as an option, together with the RF
based remote controller ECT 2. The EC4.8 has the new
SPAC network for safety control of the connected
power amplifiers.
AWR250R - Stereo Power
Amplifier
The AW250R incorporates such refined features as: FTT (Floating Transformer Technology) power supply, capable of delivering twice the current of conventional power supply designs, as well as first class overall circuit design and state-of-the-art components.
Compared to more expensive power amplifiers, with lesser performance, you will truly cherish the AW250R. The Electrocompaniet AW250R features a balanced link to additional amplifier(s) for bi-amping. It can easily be used in bridged mode, delivering up to four times the power.
