Here are examples of different styles of home theaters we've designed and installed to give you some ideas of what is possible. Our home theaters range from the modest to the extreme and can be standalone systems or be integrated with whole-house music, lighting control, security, networking, and other systems.

Traditional Home Theater

This is an example of a traditional dedicated home theater.

The system features Chord Electronics amplifiers, Lexicon processing, a SIM2 projector, Stewart Filmscreen 123" screen, Tetra Speakers, Kaleidescape entertainment server, and Crestron whole-house lighting and music control. The seating is from Acoustic Innovations.

This is another view of the same home theater.

The whole-house music system comprises eleven zones. There is a also a second system in the kitchen based around a Runco 50" plasma.

Traditional Home Theater
Built-In Plasma This is an example of a custom, built-in cabinet with all hidden speakers in the cabinet and in-wall rears. The system features a Runco 50" plasma, Lexicon receiver, Kaleidescape entertainment server, and control of outdoor and living room speakers.
Multipurpose Room This is an example of a home theater built into a multipurpose room. The system features Chord Electronics SPM-6000 monoblock amps driving Calix Phoenix Signature speakers (mains) and Tetra surrounds, a Lexicon processor, Chord Blu/DAC64 CD player, SIM2 projector, and Stewart Filmscreen 110" screen.

This is a shot of Herbie Hancock's recording studio. It's not exactly a home theater, but the 5.1 surround sound is pretty good. (We also did Herbie's home theater.)

Note that this photo is a little old and we have since upgraded the speakers to Tetra 606s. The TV and some other components have also been upgraded since this photo was taken.

Recording Studio
Hidden Theater

This is an example of a hidden, built-in home theater. The front three speakers are in-walls, and the four surround speakers are in-ceiling. The screen can be seen—if you look carefully—above the window. It comes down automatically and blocks out the light from the window when the system is turned on, transforming the room from a family room into a theater.

The screen can often be completely hidden in the attic.

With over 17 years' experience, Audio High is ready to help you build a solution that is right for you. We can provide an entire solution for you or just help in one or two areas. Our expertise covers

  • Home Theater
  • 2-Channel Music
  • Multi-Channel Music
  • Whole-House Audio & Video Systems
  • Custom Lighting
  • Security Systems
  • Computer Networking
  • Telephony
  • Electrical
  • System Calibrations

While many high-end stores abandoned 2-channel audio long ago, we embrace it. We represent some of the finest components and speakers, and we know how to give you that tingle that only a truly fine system playing your favorite recording can evoke.

Of course, we are also experts in mulit-channel music and how to best set up a surround music system. And we do whole-house music systems and combination systems for people who want to integrate with their home theater.

Really good Home Theater is often one of the most difficult things to create in your home. But it's also one of the most rewarding. Unless you have lots and lots of money (and if you do, please contact us right away), you must work within the constraints of:

  • your room (size, shape, lighting, sonic characteristics, available speaker locations, etc.),
  • your budget, and
  • your spouse or significant other.

Often, people don't want their home theaters to dominate a room, so that they may use it for living when they're not watching movies.

We understand all of these things very well, and we will work with you (including going out to your house if requested) to find the best place to put your home theater, how best to set it up within the room, how best to deal with the problems inherent in the room, and we even provide free counseling services for your significant other. We can also give you many options that work with your budget and allow you to start with something you like and gradually build to something that will have your neighbors knocking on the door, popcorn in hand.

We not only have a huge amount of experience in designing, installing, and calibrating home theaters (we hold ISF and other industry certifications), we are recognized experts in technical theory and practical application. We have a number of published articles on calibration, and even the ISF hired us to rewrite their manual that they use to certify all the calibration engineers around the world.

No matter what kind of system you put in, we work with you every step of the way to ensure you get the best sound and picture within your budget and that the system meets your particular desires. In the end, it's the honest experience that matters, and we all work with integrity and a great love for what we do.

Audio High does ISF calibrations of TVs, projectors, computer monitors, and other display devices. As mentioned above, the ISF hired us to rewrite their calibration manual that they use for certification classes. Electronic Arts uses us to calibrate their production monitors and the TVs they use to test their games. And we have done many, many calibrations in the field for our customers.

Here are the rates for our calibration services:

Full ISF Calibration - 2 Inputs, Scan Rates, or Memory Slots $400
Each Additional Input, Scan Rate, or Memory $125
Labor for Opening Set if Needed to Access Controls $125/hour
Convergence $125/hour

Travel Time is not charged if round-trip travel time is less than 40 minutes. Over 40 minutes charged at $50/hour, billed in 15-minute increments. Travel time is not charged (unless excessive) if calibration is done as part of a TV/projector sale or other installation work.

We have a great deal of experience and offer many solutions for whole-house music systems (single zone or multiple zone). We can also pipe video, integrate with security systems, or do very sophisticated home automation systems. Ask us about some of the systems we've done and what will work best for your needs.
