Feedback from Herbie Hancock

Michael,

Thank you for the fantastic job installing my new home theater. The Tetra speakers are terrific, just as Dave Holland said. You were a real pleasure to work with, and the system sounds great. Thanks so much!

Feedback from bassist Ron Carter

Dear Michael,

Until now, as you may know, I have not spent a lot of time with "high-end" audio equipment.  There are several reasons for this:

  1. The cost seemed prohibitive and not justified by the quality of the product.
  2. The systems that I've heard over the years have simply not been very impressive.
  3. As a performer for more than fifty years, I've been part of the sound.  So it didn't seem possible to me that any artificial system could successfully reproduce that sound.

My hearing (and now owning) the TETRA 606 speakers has changed all that. In addition, I have shared my new listening experience with several of my equally critical musician friends and their comments have ranged from, "So, when did you buy that piano?" to "Aha! So that's how your bass sounds in the audience!"

I can't thank you enough for this fabulous sytem!!

Sincerely,
Ron Carter

Feedback from producer/engineer Jay Newland

My Name is Jay Newland. I'm a record producer and engineer. I'm also a friend of Ron Carter's. I have made several Jazz records as well as the 2 Norah Jones records. I went to Ron's home and listened to the speakers he got from you. Absolutely beautiful. Their ability to handle low frequency information clearly was superb. The spatial image is also fantastic. Bravo.

Feedback from saxophonist/composer Benny Golson

Adrian/Michael,

It was a distinct pleasure and delight having the two of you pay me a short, but quite consequential, visit with your miracle speakers. Wow! Indeed, you have brought life into my life (with your Tetra speakers ... yes, indeed). I think we might get together here in NYC before my return here for the winter in October. I'll be in touch about this. ...

Incidentally, I'll be getting in touch with Spielberg and Hanks .... They're jazz fans and would possibly be interested in your speakers.

Love 'ya,

Benny

Feedback from Electronic Arts
(world's largest gaming company)

Michael,

I wanted to thank you on behalf of the Lord of The Rings Team for your valuable contribution in consulting with us through our THX certification process. Your expertise in the area of monitor calibration enabled the art team to have a consistent level of calibration for the final months of the project and eliminated the many questions and problems that can crop up due to color and contrast inconsistencies. We truly appreciated your patience, flexibility, and professionalism in working around the artists schedules while were in "crunch mode."

Best regards,
Margaret Foley-Mauvais
Art Director, Electronic Arts

Feedback from Music Restoration Specialist Steve Hoffman

Got both the 405's and the 505's up to my mastering room this morning. I felt right at home with the Tetra sound. So much so that before I did any critical listening to my usual demo stuff I actually finished working on something that I had started with my old monitors: "Some Like It Hot" by Barney Kessel with Art Pepper from 1959.

This Kessel recording I've heard many times, but this week I've been using the actual analog master. So I inaugurated the 505's with an amazing sounding master stereo master tape that sounded extra amazing. Even though I played that same tape yesterday, today it was like I was hearing things for the first time. No exaggeration. And this is with a line stage I'm not crazy about and wire that I'm not crazy about as well.

After about three hours I switched speakers and got the 405's in there. They sound wonderful, but the 505's sounded more like what I'm used to in the bottom octave as well as more "body" in the lower mids. Crucial to my work.

While the 405's are just the right size for the room, the 505 LTD's are the ones for me. They are easier for me to work with and I immediately felt comfortable with them.

At any rate, they are everything you said they would be. Thank you.

Both speakers have that great sound; sort of a seamless sound that enables me to hear stuff that is hidden in the crossover cracks of most other speakers. Also, is it possible (after I prayed to Buddha for such a thing) that the 505's are a true and honest 8 ohm speaker? I believe so; a miracle!!!

Thanks again, see you next week.

Feedback Sent to the CEO & COO of Kaleidescape

Michael [Malcolm] & Cheena [Srinivasan],

I first saw the Kaleidescape System demonstrated in one of your Southern California authorized dealer's store fronts in mid July 2006. It was almost like love at first sight, I knew I had to have one for my home theater application here in the Bay Area.

This is not only a testimonial for the Kaleidescape System (which is absolutely cutting edge in a home theater and audio application) but also for the authorized dealer that handled my transaction, Audio High in Mountain View, Ca. Michael Silver and his team delivered the utmost quality installation and customer satisfaction. What was impressive, was the personal attention to detail and professionalism I received. The effort and hard work that was delivered to ensure I was happy and satisfied with my purchase and installation.

Before purchasing the Kaleidescape System, I wanted a reference of a prior Kaleidescape installation. Michael Silver showed us one. It was powerfully convincing. After his demonstration, it was obvious the product met my expectations and so did Audio High. I wrote a check that night for the Kaleidescape System.

My installation is now complete and the enjoyment begins. I just wanted you to know of my experience.

Sincerely,

Pam Thomas

Another Satisfied Customer

Michael: Please add me to your long list of satisfied customers.

I got our local audio tech. to set up the [system - John drove out from Nevada to purchase a system from us].

We were both very impressed.

It is difficult to get away from the system without saying "well, just one more and then...": A good glass of wine, turn out the lights and play that music you recommended and I am truly at the concert.

Thanks, John

Joe La Barbera, Darek Oles & Michael
Joe is one of the great jazz drummers. He has performed with hundreds of artists, both live and on many recordings. Darek, too, is highly sought-after and has made over 30 recordings.
"Blue Lou" Marini & Michael-Lou
Twins separated at birth? You decide. Lou Marini is most famous for his role in the Blues Brothers movies, but this pales next to the remainder of his CV, including gigs with Billy Preston, SNL, David Letterman, Grammys, Steeley Dan, numerous albums and films, and he plays a pretty mean sax to boot
.
Lee Konitz & Michael
Lee became well-known in 1948, when he began working with Miles Davis (and recorded with him 1949-51). He recorded solo and with Lennie Tristano, his former Chicago mentor, and was a member of the harmonically daring big bands of Claude Thornhill and the Stan Kenton Orchestra (1952-3), as well as Gil Evans, Gerry Mulligan, Miles Davis, Elivn Jones, and others.
Alan Shepard & Michael during a NASA pre-launch party.
Alan Shepard was the first American in space and one of only 12 people to walk on the moon. He died in 1998 at the age of 74. This picture was taken during a pre-launch party for STS-43, a mission for which Michael wrote the code to send the first email to space and supported the astronauts during the mission.

Michael Works the Chamber
Michael (an EMT and DMT) is a volunteer at the Catalina Hyperbaric chamber. This picture was taken in 2003 when he was the operator for the chamber during a treatment for a diver with decompression sickness.

Lionfish Michael is an avid scuba diver. This is a photo he took on a trip to Truk Lagoon in 2003. OK, so it's not exactly an industry photo, but it's still worth a look.

Jim, Greg, and I were preparing for the launch of On Sound and Music Journal.

Jim Merod & Rachel: "Don't mess with us."
Jim Merod has recorded more jazz than any other person on the planet, and his recordings are without peer. He is also my good friend and comrade. Rachel is my daughter. She hasn't recorded any jazz, but she is also my good friend.
